All the hoorah about the Bain/Rmoney story is wonderful (and the kettle corn popcorn is even better). It has been enjoyable to listen to even people who might have voted for Rmoney to realize how incredibly stupid he is for a (supposedly) smart person. However, that is only one small part of the upcoming campaign.
The Repugs are pushing the "economy" issue, that Obama's number are horrible, he isn't creating jobs, etc. etc. Obama, being the very good speaker he is, needs to step up and take some help from some of those wonderful Southern Baptist preachers (MLK jr is the best to listen to for inspiring and wonderful cadences) to present the following for the general election (below the squiggle):
I have a jobs plan (along the lines of "I have a dream...) that would put Americans back to work....
The Republicans in the House have refused to vote on it.
I have a health care plan that provides affordable health care for all Americans....
The Republicans in the House have voted to repeal it 33 times.
I have a tax plan that will assure the middle class that their taxes will not rise....
The Republicans in the House only want the rich to have lower taxes.
I found Osama Bin Laden and made sure his reign ended (I hate the idea of using the word "killed" as a good idea)....
The Republicans gave up looking for him after starting two wars, killing and injuring thousands of Americans and civilians.
etc. etc.
The issues in this election (besides the racists who wouldn't vote for Obama even if he were annointed the new Messiah by God himself coming down from heaven) are fairly clear and show the true differences between the Dems and the Repugs.
If Obama wins again, he will need a Dem controlled House and Senate to make sure that the economy continues its upward trend. By not painting the House (and Senate) Repugs as the obstructionists they truly are, he isn't helping his cause. He needs to slap that "Repugs don't want you to succeed (have health care, a job, a future, an education, etc.) unless you are in the top 1% of the wealthiest people" tag on all Repugs.
"Vote against any Repug who is running, to make sure our government becomes functional again for all Americans, not just the rich. To make sure our government works to provide opportunities for all Americans, not just the rich. To make sure our government remains "of the people, by the people, for the people" for all Americans and not just the rich."
etc. etc.
I know he will provide an inspirational speech at the convention, but he needs to start putting out those topics about all the good he has accomplished despite the Repugs working as hard as they can to make sure American fails (because a black Dem can't succeed!!!!).
Using each topic as a 30 second ad (with appropriate headlines showing how the Repugs have worked against the American people, would resonate as much, if not more, than the Bain wierdness.
Of course, throwing in the Ryan plan, the "we only need a person with a hand that can sign the bills WE (House) want," etc., would only strengthen the idea that the ONLY reason the economy isn't improving faster is because the Republicans are preventing it from moving forward (despite their constant harping that Obama's economic plans aren't working). Put the blame back where it belongs, not on Obama, but on the Repugs who gleefully stated that their sole purpose for the last 4 years was to make sure that Obama was a one term president. Their purpose was not to recover from the great recession, their purpose was not to make the lives of Americans better, their purpose was not to improve America's image, it was solely to make sure a black man didn't get uppity by having two terms.
